The energy certificate is compulsory for all new and existing buildings whenever they are put on the market for sale, lease or rent. Obtaining the document is the responsibility of the building's owner, who must present it when the contract of sale, lease or rental is signed, attesting to the information disclosed at the outset about the energy class to which the property belongs. Buildings undergoing major renovation, in situations where the cost of the work exceeds 25% of the total value of the building, are also subject to mandatory energy certification.
